Garage Door Repair in Rancho Bernardo

Seven Oaks and Oaks North, the 55-and-over neighborhoods, set the tone in Rancho Bernardo, alongside family streets in Westwood and Bernardo Heights and homes rebuilt after the 2007 Witch Creek Fire. For a lot of households here the garage is the main way in and out, and not everyone can lift a heavy door by hand. A broken spring, which should never be forced with the opener, or an opener that dies in a power outage is the call we hear most from Rancho Bernardo.

Do you serve Rancho Bernardo?

Yes. Spring & Cable repairs garage doors in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego (ZIP codes 92127, 92128). Most of Rancho Bernardo was built from the 1960s through the 1980s, so many garages still have older steel sectionals, some on extension springs, plus the occasional one-piece door. The jobs we get called for most here are heavy to lift by hand, spring replacement, opener replacement and installation and remotes, keypads and homelink. Expect $229 and up for a single torsion spring, with the whole job priced from a photo before we book it.

Homes and garage doors in Rancho Bernardo

Most of Rancho Bernardo was built from the 1960s through the 1980s, so many garages still have older steel sectionals, some on extension springs, plus the occasional one-piece door. In Seven Oaks and Oaks North, a door that lifts easily by hand matters more than almost anywhere. Homes rebuilt after the 2007 Witch Creek Fire carry newer doors on torsion springs. Plenty of garages still run openers from before California's July 2019 battery backup rule, which leaves the door shut in a power outage unless someone pulls the release and lifts it. HOA neighborhoods review door color and panel style when a section or door is replaced.

Rancho Bernardo questions

My Rancho Bernardo garage door opener is older than 2019. Do I have to add battery backup?

No. California's battery backup law, in effect since July 1, 2019, applies to openers sold or installed from that date, so an older opener can stay in service. The catch is a power outage: without backup, the only way out is to pull the emergency release cord and lift the door by hand. If that would be hard for anyone in your home, a new opener with battery backup is worth considering, and we install them.

Can you make the garage door in my Seven Oaks or Oaks North home easier to manage?

Yes. A door that is hard to lift by hand usually has tired springs that no longer balance its weight, so we adjust or replace them until the door stays put halfway up. Nylon rollers and lubricated hinges make it quieter and smoother. A keypad or a newer opener with phone control means you are not hunting for a remote. If the door suddenly feels very heavy, a spring may be broken, so leave the opener off.

The springs on my older Rancho Bernardo garage door run along the tracks. Should they be changed to torsion springs?

Not necessarily. Extension springs along the horizontal tracks were standard on many doors of that era and work well when they are sound and each has a safety cable through it. Converting to a torsion spring above the door gives a smoother, more controlled lift and is worth considering when the extension springs are due anyway. If one of them has snapped, keep the opener off and the door closed until it is repaired.
