Estimate your job in ten seconds
A ballpark from our published rates for standard residential sectional doors and openers. Custom wood, oversized and commercial doors are quoted after a photo.
What is your door doing?
Build your own
Estimated total: $329 for 2 torsion springs
That total is $1,000 or more, past what we take on. Text us a photo first: most doors need fewer parts than this. A job that size goes to a licensed contractor, and we will tell you so.
Worked examples
- Loud bang, door will not lift, two-car door: both torsion springs replaced and the door balanced, from $329. About an hour.
- Door crooked with a cable hanging: both lift cables, drums checked, from $159. If the springs are worn too, springs and cables together run about $488.
- Opener hums, door stays down: a new drive gear and sprocket, from $139. If the sensors are also failing, about $248 for both.
- Twenty-year-old opener, no battery backup: a new belt-drive opener with battery backup installed and programmed, from $549.
- Door jumped the track after a bump: rollers back in, track straightened, door tested, from $189. A dented section is measured and quoted separately.
What changes the price
- Door size and weight. A standard single or double steel door is the base rate. Heavy custom wood doors and oversized doors take bigger springs and are quoted after a photo.
- Spring grade. Standard springs are the base rate. High-cycle springs for busy doors and galvanized springs for coastal homes cost more and last longer.
- One spring or two. Most two-car doors carry two torsion springs, and we replace them as a pair.
- Opener type. Belt-drive openers are the base rate for a new install. Wall-mount (jackshaft) openers and smart-home add-ons are quoted.
- Panels. Sections are ordered to match your door, so they are measured and quoted, never priced from a photo.
- Timing. No premium during our posted hours (Mon to Sat 7am to 7pm).
Repair or replace: what each costs
| Factor | Repair | Replace the door |
|---|---|---|
| Typical cost | Posted repairs run from $59 to $549, and every job stays under $1,000 | Well over a thousand dollars installed for a standard steel double door in San Diego, several thousand for insulated, wood or custom |
| Time | About an hour | Measure, order, a lead time of weeks, a day to install |
| The right call when | Sections and tracks are sound; the fault is springs, cables, rollers, the opener or one dented section | Several sections are damaged, the bottom is rusted through, the wood is rotted, or you want a different style or insulation |
| Who does it | Us, minor repair under $1,000 | A licensed garage door contractor |
Not sure which you need? Repair or replace a garage door walks through it, and what spring replacement costs in San Diego covers the market, not just our prices. For the other common repairs, what garage door repairs cost in San Diego in 2026 sets typical market ranges side by side.
Licensing, plainly
We are not a licensed contractor. Garage door repairs under $1,000 in labor and materials do not require a California contractor license (Business and Professions Code section 7048), and we stay inside that line. A new garage door is a job for a licensed contractor, and we say so. Quotes, payment and the workmanship guarantee are covered in our terms.

Pricing questions
Is there a trip fee or service call charge?
Not when we do a repair. If you only want a diagnosis and decide not to proceed, the visit is $69, and that amount is waived the moment we do any work on the door. There is no fuel fee, no after-hours multiplier during our posted hours and no per-mile charge anywhere in San Diego County.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. Every repair has a flat price, parts and labor included, posted on our pricing page and agreed by text before we drive out. The number does not grow if a bolt is rusted or the job runs long. If you only want a diagnosis, the visit is $69, and that charge is waived when we do the repair.
Why do some ads show a $29 or $49 service call?
A low service call is usually the start of the price, not the end of it: the spring, the second spring, the cables and the labor get added once the technician is in your driveway. Before you book anyone, ask for the all-in total for your door with parts. Ours is posted above and confirmed by text.
Why is a pair of springs not double the price of one spring?
Because most of the work happens once. The visit, securing the door, releasing the old tension, rewinding and balancing the door are the same whether one spring or two go on the shaft, so the second spring adds its part and a few minutes. That is why the pair rate from $329 sits close to the single rate from $229, and why we recommend the pair when both springs are the same age.
Is the posted price the same for a double door and a single door?
Yes, for standard residential sectional doors up to 16 feet wide and 7 or 8 feet tall, which covers most San Diego garages. The spring size changes with the door, the price does not. Oversized doors, heavy custom wood doors, commercial doors and high-cycle spring setups are quoted after a photo or a visit, and that number is also agreed before we drive out.
What garage door repairs are most common?
Springs, lift cables, rollers and opener gears, because those parts wear out on every door. Springs are rated for a set number of open and close cycles, cables fray near the bottom brackets, roller bearings wear, and the drive gear and sprocket inside many openers wear with age. Safety sensors also get bumped out of line. Each of these has a flat price on our price list.
What does a new opener cost installed?
A belt-drive opener with battery backup, installed and programmed, with the old unit hauled off, starts at $549. A new LiftMaster or Chamberlain uses Security+ 3.0 and takes only 3.0 remotes, which we bring, and your car's buttons are programmed when the car supports the opener's code family. Wall-mount (jackshaft) openers and smart-home extras are quoted after a photo. Every opener we install has the battery backup California requires.
Does homeowners insurance cover garage door repair?
Usually only when a sudden event damaged the door, such as a car hitting it, a storm or a fire, and your policy decides. Springs, cables and openers that wear out count as normal wear, which policies generally exclude, and the deductible is often more than a spring repair costs. If you do file a claim, we give you an itemized invoice with each part and the labor.
How does pricing work for several doors or a whole building?
Landlords and property managers with more than one door on the same visit get one written total before the visit, with the per-door rates applied to each door. Send us the unit count and a photo of a typical door and opener for the number.
