Skyline and much of Paradise Hills are postwar tract housing from the 1950s and 1960s, single-family homes spread over the hills with attached garages, while Bay Terraces, between them, followed in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Older doors here run from original one-piece tilt-ups to steel sectionals on extension springs, many replaced at least once, and plenty of openers are 25 years old or more. Encanto, up toward SR-94, mixes older and postwar houses on hilly streets. Sloping lots put some garages above or below the street at the end of a steep driveway.

Paradise Hills, Skyline and Encanto questions
Our address is 92114 or 92139, and neighbors call the area Skyline, Bay Terraces or Paradise Hills. Do you cover it?
Yes, all of it. The names overlap here: the 92114 and 92139 ZIP codes cross neighborhood lines, and parts of Bay Terraces get called Paradise Hills or Skyline Hills. Encanto, Skyline, Bay Terraces and Paradise Hills are all in our area, from SR-54 north to SR-94. When you book, give us the street address and the nearest cross street, and mention a steep driveway or a locked side gate.
We live in Bay Terraces, between Paradise Hills and Skyline. Is our garage door newer than the ones in the older tracts?
Probably by a generation. Bay Terraces was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s, while much of Skyline and Paradise Hills dates from the 1950s and 1960s. Homes from that later era usually got steel sectional doors, many on extension springs with safety cables and some on torsion springs. That still makes original parts over 40 years old, so springs, cables, pulleys and openers that were never replaced are due for a look.
Our Skyline house backs onto a canyon. If a brush fire comes up the slope, should the garage door be closed?
Yes. A closed door keeps embers and heat out of the garage, where cars, fuel and storage burn easily, so close it when you leave and follow evacuation orders first. Before fire season, make sure you can open it without power: battery backup on the opener or, with the door closed and the springs intact, the emergency release cord. A bottom seal that meets the floor helps keep embers out too.
